Gal Gadot To Play Live-Action Snow White's Evil Queen!

Disney's upcoming live-action adaptation of it classic animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs appears to have found its main villain in Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot.

According to Deadline, Gadot is currently in final negotiations to portray the Evil Queen (also known as the Wicked Queen) in Disney's new Snow White movie. Directed by Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man, 500 Days of Summer) and produced by Marc Platt (La La Land, The Trial of the Chicago 7), the film stars Rachel Zegler (Shazam! Fury of the Gods, West Side Story) as Snow White herself. Production is expected to begin sometime next year.

Based on the 1812 German fairy tale "Snow White" by the Brothers Grimm, Walt Disney Productions' animated musical film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs initially hit cinemas on Dec. 21, 1937. Starring the voices of Adriana Caselotti and Lucille La Verne as Snow White and the Evil Queen, respectively, the film is one of many adaptations of "Snow White" to hit screens over the years, though is arguably the most famous of the bunch by a considerable margin.

"Snow White" was most recently adapted into live-action via Universal's 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman and its 2016 sequel The Huntsman: Winter's War. In both films, the Evil Queen -- dubbed "Queen Ravenna" -- was played by Charlize Theron. Snow White and the Huntsman also starred Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman, the latter of whom also reprised his role for Winter's War. Stewart, meanwhile, did not return for the sequel, only appearing in archive footage.

Gadot is perhaps best known for her role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe, having portrayed the comic book character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Wonder Woman 1984 and Zack Snyder's Justice League. She is expected to reprise the role once more for the planned third Wonder Woman movie. Gadot is also known for her role in the Fast & Furious franchise, having played the character of Gisele Yashar in Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7.

The upcoming live-action treatment of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is only the latest example of Disney producing a live-action remake or spinoff of one of its classic animated films, with other recent examples including Cruella, Mulan, Lady and the Tramp, The Lion King, Aladdin, Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book and Cinderella.

In addition to Snow White, other upcoming projects include Peter Pan & Wendy, The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, Hunchback, Bambi, Hercules, The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, Lilo & Stitch and Tink, as well as sequels to The Jungle Book, The Lion King, Aladdin and Cruella. Aladdin is also getting a spinoff film focusing on the character of Prince Anders.

The End.
